Setelah Honda berencana melepas produk barunya Mega Pro - disebut Unicorn Dazzler di India - bulan depan, selanjutnya giliran Yamaha meluncurkan Byson yang sudah gencar diberitakan sejak akhir tahun lalu.

Eiji Tada, Wakil President Direktur PT Yamaha Motor Kencana Indonesia (YMKI) mengatakan, saat ini proses persiapan tengah berlangsung. Produksi juga sudah dimulai. "Peluncuran akan berlangsung di kuartal ketiga tahun ini. Sebentar lagi," ujar Eiji di Pabrik Yamaha, Bekasi, Jawa Barat.

Byson akan menjadi senjata baru Yamaha untuk mempertahankan posisi #1 sport 150cc yang saat ini juga dihuni produknya, V-ixion. Byson diposisikan di bawah V-ixion yang sudah menggunakan mesin dengan teknologi injeksi bensin. Sampai saat ini, belum bisa dipastikan harga jual sepedamotor ini. "Harga akan lebih murah dibandingkan Vixion, karena produk ini menggunakan karburator," jelas Eiji.

Byson akan dibekali mesin baru berkapasitas 153cc. Di India dikenal dengan sebutan FZ 16. Byson akan bersaing dengan beberapa model yang mengisi segmen ini, yakni Mega Pro, TVS Aphace dan Bajaj Pulsar.
