PT Hyundai Mobil Indonesia siap meluncurkan produk baru Grand Avega di ajang Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), 22 Juli 2011. Kebetulan Kompas.com dapat informasi dari komunitas Hyundai yang menyodorkan sosok kendaraan baru yang bukan bukan sedan, tapi hatchback .

Bentuknya sangat berbeda dengan Avega lama dan lebih mirip mobil konsep Hyundai Verna RB (sedan), sedang bagian buritan bergaya Verna hatchback yang sudah dipasarkan di Eropa. Kabarnya, HMI lagi memperkenalkan unit ini kepada tim penjualan setiap dealer di seluruh Indonesia.

Untuk memperoleh kepastian, Kompas.com langsung menghubungi Mukiat Sutikno, Wakil Presiden Direktur HMI. Ia menjelaskan, kehadiran Grand Avega tak akan menggantikan posisi Avega yang masih dipasarkan. "Grand Avega memang hatchback dan segmen pasarnya benar-benar berbeda, di atas Avega," jelas Mukiat.

Saat ditanya harga jual, Mukiat masih enggan menjelaskan lebih lanjut. "Kalau harga tunggu saja, sabar dulu," tutupnya. Kalau dilihat dari pandangan mata, Grand Avega akan head to head dengan Ford Focus yang masih minim saingan di kelas 1.600cc bensin dan 2.000cc diesel. Dengan pesaing ini, maka estimasi harga akan di atas Rp 200 jutaan.
