Developing the Art of Waiting for GOD

What does it mean by "waiting for GOD? or What kind of waiting we are talking about?

1. Waiting with patient, waiting patiently: the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting (inability to wait patiently is a sign of pride, proud person cannot seems to wait patiently, don't make me wait, I deserve it right now)

Why do we need develop the Art of Waiting for GOD?

1. In our life, we spend more time waiting than receiving

- Waiting is a part of life

James 5:7 > Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.//5:7 Karena itu, saudara-saudara, bersabarlah sampai kepada kedatangan Tuhan! Sesungguhnya petani menantikan hasil yang berharga dari tanahnya dan ia sabar sampai telah turun hujan musim gugur dan hujan musim semi.

- Life and Problems are two sides of a coin

John 16:33 > "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."// 16:33 Semuanya itu Kukatakan kepadamu, supaya kamu beroleh damai sejahtera dalam Aku. Dalam dunia kamu menderita penganiayaan, tetapi kuatkanlah hatim, Aku telah mengalahkan dunia.

Our life is a journey >We need to learn to enjoy where we are, while we are on our way (on the journey) to where we are going (our goal, destination, request)!

2. Waiting develops patience - fruit of the spirit > we glorify the LORD.
(Waiting for GOD to answer our problem, deliver us from suffering, heal us from our sickness)
- Waiting in our struggle, waiting for a breakthrough> patience

Romans 5:3> Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance (NIV) //5:3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience (KJV)

[5:3 Dan bukan hanya itu saja. Kita malah bermegah juga dalam kesengsaraan kita, karena kita tahu, bahwa kesengsaraan itu menimbulkan ketekunan

Patience is developed through the test of time>waiting, Waiting is a useful spiritual exercise

3. To receive the Promise of GOD
Hebrew 10:36:
You need to persevere so that when tou have done the will of GOD, you will receive what he has promised. NIV

10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. KJV

10:36 Sebab kamu memerlukan ketekunan, supaya sesudah kamu melakukan kehendak Allah, kamu memperoleh apa yang dijanjikan itu.

Hebrew 6:15
And so after waiting patiently, Abraham receive what was promised.

6:15 Abraham menanti dengan sabar dan dengan demikian ia memperoleh apa yang dijanjikan kepadanya.

Mattew 7:7
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

7:7" Mintalah, maka akan diberikan kepadamu; carilah, maka kamu akan mendapat; ketoklah, maka pintu akan dibukakan bagimu.

He says He will - He doesn't say when -so wait!

HOW DO DEVELOP the Art of Waiting (patiently) for GOD?

Psalm 37:3-7

3Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy afe pasture.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5.Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes

1. Trust in the Lord GOD(Psalm 37:3)

- Change our focus from ur problem to GOD
- Trust in GOD's love (HE gave the best - JESUS)
- Trust in GOD's wisdom (HE know better!)
- Compare to - Paren's love/ Father's love/ Mother's love>the pupose is for our good
Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,who have beeb called according to his purpose.

Silence is not Absence

2. Rejoice in the Lord

- Psalm 37:4 - delight yourself in the Lord> like a child waiting expectantly
- Enjoy the journey
- Count HIS blessings!
- Give thanks!

3. Surrender our will to GOD's will

Psalm 37:7
In our waiting we grow in our understanding - God is sovereign

WHAT EXACTLY WE NEED TO DO?

Run to the LORD,Don't run away from HIM
in prayer, in devotional time, in Reading HIS Word

We will receive new strength

Isaiah 40:31
but those who wait o the LORD shall renew their strength.
They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not be faint.
