Default [News - BBC Top Gear] Ferrari SA APERTA launched in Paris Autoshow

Ten years after unveiling the 550 Barchetta at Paris, Ferrari returns to France with this the SA APERTA (sorry, were not shouting, THAT IS ITS OFFICIAL NAME).

Built to celebrate Pininfarinas 80th anniversary, the SA APERTA is a 599-based roadster featuring the V12 from the GTO and a light soft-top. This be no automatic folding soft-top though; its like a snap-on and is only to be used when the weather gets RUDDY TERRIBLE.

The SA APERTA features a low-slung windscreen and has been stiffened, lowered and shorn of fat to make sure the weight difference between this and a tin-top is negligible.

And because youll spend most of the time with the roof off, youll sample the glory that is a Ferrari V12; the 6.0-litre V12 from the 599 GTO with 661bhp, 457lb ft of torque and enough oral vehemence to scare endangered Himalayan mountain tigers.

No word on performance stats, but remember this is the 599 GTO engine were talking about from the fastest road-car Ferrari currently builds and it hits 62mph in a scarcely believable 3.35 seconds.

The SA APERTA, the most exclusive road-going Ferrari ever offered, will be open to the greasy grabbings of the public when it debuts at the Paris motor show, and well be there to bring you more info.

Like it? Tough. All 80 models have already been sold. Click on that gallery and dream, friend
