Default I didn't need to wait to fight either

That combat system, in fact, is the best part of all TERA Online. Typical MMOs make me click on attacks and force me to watch the action unfold. Not so here, as I'm actively participating in every skirmish I encounter. Clear danger paths let me move from the way of enemy attacks. The button layout is easy to tera gold learn, providing a simple point of entry to new MMO players. That active involvement keeps me engaged too, where I had trouble staying interested in different MMOs as well as the standard battle system. TERA's combat is easily the best part of this game, which is significant in a genre such as an MMO.

I didn't need to wait to fight either, making matters much better. I was astonished how fast the game delivers me from guide island to the main match. Scoring my first mount only after the starting isle is critical; allowing me quickly get around the massive world was predominant (no pun intended) in maintaining my interest. Locating quests to level up me is simple too, making building my personality into a powerhouse fast and painless. I kept playing and maintained building, remaining hooked the whole time. The match never left me in the dust, and that I appreciated it. That is another foible of MMOs that TERA does well to avoid: new players like me will not feel behind the curve.

What is much less enjoyable, however, is that the technology surrounding that battle. The art style, taking cues from anime and similar animation styles, does appeal to the eye. The sport cannot hide its age though; I instantly see noticeable chips in the armor. Everything appears dated, from the surroundings to the character's animations. There is a really last-gen feel to the game, which will turn off some players right from the jump. I didn't mind the dated visuals after a while, but they're certainly noticeable from the get-go.

While the world may not hold up to modern standards, TERA's customization suite absolutely does. I get a lot of options from the jump so as to construct the specific character I need. Gender, race, color scheme, class, you name it I can change it. Some races do not have genders, like the Baraka, but that's one of just a few limitations. I will say that the dearth of 3 courses on PC, valkyrie, ninja, and gunner, is unsatisfactory though. I can only expect Bluehole makes them available to the console crowd soon. Luckily they're not a massive loss, since the available classes such as the Berserker, Lancer, and Priest give me lots of ways to perform with.

Moving into this review I was fearful TERA Online would adhere too closely to the standard MMO tropes. I feared that I would make a character, slog round the tutorial, and finally be bored after a few hours. None of that happened. Rather, TERA did a wonderful job of pulling me in, keeping me about, and gaining my admiration. It is not an ideal title, as six years of existence have generated a couple of inevitable quirks. Not one of them violate the experience, nevertheless, which makes TERA a no-brainer for at least a trial run. PC-caliber MMOs was a pipe dream, but today with games like TERA Online, they're a reality.
