3D Instant Website

Dassault Syst�mes SolidWorks Corporation will offer alternative, higher value offerings to replace 3D Instant Website. DS SolidWorks will:

Discontinue hosting customer websites created using 3D Instant Website starting December 31, 2010.

Retire 3D Instant Website after the service pack cycle of SolidWorks 2011.

After December 31, 2010, new and existing customers will still be able to create custom websites, but for local hosting only. Notification of DS SolidWorks intent to discontinue the hosting of customer websites will appear on the 3D Instant Website web page immediately.

SolidWorks 2D Editor

To better align with the Dassault Syst�mes new 2D product - DraftSight�, DS SolidWorks Corp. will retire the SolidWorks 2D Editor. The SolidWorks 2D Editor download is planned to be available through the Service Pack cycle of SolidWorks 2011 (October, 2010 through October, 2011), after which time the download link on the SolidWorks Customer Portal will be removed.

Dassault Syst�mes now offers DraftSight, which is available via download to everyone. DraftSight features an open, global online community that facilitates a collaborative, design-focused atmosphere where the community of CAD users can expand their knowledge, open new possibilities, and communicate with each other to find the answers they need.

To get started with DraftSight, visit www.draftsight.com and follow the download instructions.

To access the community, visit swym.3ds.com and create a DS Passport that grants access to community services.

Microsoft Office Documents Embedded in SolidWorks Documents

If you use Windows� 7 64-bit version, you should install Microsoft Hotfix KB 983396 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983396. This fixes problems when trying to embed Microsoft� Office 97-2003 Compatible Format documents into SolidWorks documents. This applies to all installed versions of Microsoft Office.

Windows XP Retirement Announcement

Microsoft officially retired Windows� XP operating system in April of 2009. SolidWorks 2011 will continue to support Windows XP (32 and 64 bit versions) excluding operating systems related issues or fixes. This level of support will continue through at least one release following SolidWorks 2011. After that, in conjunction with Microsoft�s support policies, only Windows Vista� and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit versions) operating systems will be supported. The SolidWorks operating system support plan outlined above will also apply to the SolidWorks Simulation and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM product lines.

Drawings

In Tools > Options > System Options > Drawings, the option Disable note merging when dragging disables the merging of two notes or a note and a dimension when they are dragged to one another. Select the option to disable merging; clear the option to enable merging. A new shortcut menu item, Merge Annotations, appears when you select two notes or a note and a dimension, and right click.

The SolidWorks Flow Simulation user interface and online help are localized in French and German.

SolidWorks Simulation

In cases of bonding contact between sheet metal parts with other surfaces (solids or shells), the bonding algorithm can enforce over-stiffening due to the gap between the mid-surface mesh and the contact surface geometry. The over-stiffening of the bonding contact alters the calculation of the rigid body modes. The program will calculate all rigid modes (with frequency values close to 0) if you eliminate the gap by offsetting the mesh of the sheet metal parts from the mid-surfaces to the contact surface geometry.

PhotoView 360

Integrated Preview is more interactive. During view dynamics (rotating/zooming), Integrated Preview limits refinement until view dynamics are complete, resulting in better coordination between the preview and mouse movement.
