Ganesh is the patron of letters and of learning; he is the legendary scribe who, using his broken tusk, wrote down the Mahabharata epic. This bronze sculpture depicts lord Ganesh in the act of writing down the Mahabharata. He holds his broken tusk in his right hand and a tablet in his left. He wears a cobra belt entwined around his belly. The cobra is an animal usually associated with Shiva, a reminder that Ganesh is his son.

His large belly is said to contain all the universe. His trunk is pointing to the right. In this direction the trunk represents moksha, good for renouncing the world.
