Sebenarnya kata Lucifer tidak ada dalam bahasa asli dari Alkitab kita. Dalam satu-satunya ayat yang merujuk pada Lucifer yaitu Yesaya 14:12, berikut adalah berberapa versi terjemahannya:

Terjemahan Baru (LAI): Wah, engkau sudah jatuh dari langit, hai Bintang Timur, putera Fajar, engkau sudah dipecahkan dan jatuh ke bumi, hai yang mengalahkan bangsa-bangsa!
Bahasa Indonesia Sehari-Hari (LAI): Hai raja Babel, dahulu engkau bintang pagi yang cemerlang, tapi sekarang sudah jatuh dari langit! Dahulu engkau mengalahkan bangsa-bangsa, tapi sekarang dicampakkan ke tanah.
Firman Allah Yang Hidup (LBI): Sekarang engkau telah jatuh dari langit, hai Bintang Timur (Lusifer), putra Fajar! Engkau telah ditebang dan rebah di tanah -- sekalipun engkau dulu gagah perkasa ketika melawan bangsa-bangsa di dunia.
Terjemahan Lama (LAI): Bagaimana engkau sudah gugur dari langit, hai bintang kejora! hai anak fajar! engkau sudah ditebang rebah ke bumi, engkau, yang penganiaya segala bangsa!

Jadi sebenarnya nama Lucifer adalah kata Latin hasil terjemahan St. Jerome dari bahasa aslinya (heylel atau e�sphoros). Dan jika anda mempunyai Amplified Bible, mungkin anda juga mengira ayat ini tidak merujuk pada Lucifer mantan pemimpin paduan suara sorgawi. Coba lihat ayat dan footnote yang ada pada Alkitab tersebut:

Amplified: How have you fallen from heaven, O [a]light-bringer and daystar, son of the morning! How you have been cut down to the ground, you who weakened and laid low the nations [O blasphemous, satanic king of Babylon!]

[a]The Hebrew for this expression--"light-bringer" or "shining one"--is translated "Lucifer" in The Latin Vulgate, and is thus translated in the King James Version. But because of the association of that name with Satan, it is not now used in this and other translations. Some students feel that the application of the name Lucifer to Satan, in spite of the long and confident teaching to that effect, is erroneous. The application of the name to Satan has existed since the third century A.D., and is based on the supposition that Luke 10:18 is an explanation of Isa. 14:12, which many authorities believe is not true. "Lucifer," the light-bringer, is the Latin equivalent of the Greek word "Phosphoros," which is used as a title of Christ in II Pet. 1:19 and corresponds to the name "radiant and brilliant Morning Star" in Rev. 22:16, a name Jesus called Himself. This passage here in Isa. 14:13 clearly applies to the king of Babylon.

Untuk pengetahuan juga, dalam ayat lain yang disebutkan di atas, Yesus disebutkan sebagai orthrinos aster (???????? ????? - versi Textus Receptus) dalam Wahyu atau Phosphoros dalam surat Petrus.
