Awakened deer
This was taken at about 20 yards in a state park where the deer are fairly accustomed to people. She had her head on the ground when I first spotted her, but she heard me coming before I could photograph that scene. She was quite calm as long as that fence was between us. I've seen this before with deer. They think because there's something between them and the threat that they're safe, no matter how flimsy the barrier. When I moved to the left, her defense was useless so she got up and trotted away.
