Quake and Tsunami Warning in Three Bengkulu Regencies

BENGKULU, KOMPAS.com - Head of the Bengkulu Disaster Eradication Agency Yohanes Noor said here Monday three regencies/cities, namely Bengkulu Utara, Mukomuko and Bengkulu had been declared quake and tsunami prone areas. Bengkulu city and Bengkulu Utara and Mukomuko regencies as parts of Bengkulu province, are highly prone to earthquakes and tsunamis.
The three areas have the same qualifications as quake and tsuami prone areas as regencies/cities on the coastal regions of West Sumatra, and as two other regions in Nangroe Aceh Darussalam province. The conclusion was made following research work by the Indonesian Council of Sciences (LIPI). Bengkulu Mayor Ahmad Kanedy said his office will constantly make the people fully understand the threat, so that they will be constantly ready for such eventuality.
