David foster lahir pada 1 November, 1949 di Victoria, Canada.

sepupunya, Billy Foster, Meninggal karena kecelakaan mobil balap.David, sudah menikah 3 kali dan mempunyai 5 anak kandung dan 3 anak angkat

Istri pertamanya adalah B.J Cook. Istri kedua nya adalah Rebecca Dyer, dan yang ke 3 adalah Linda Thompson.

David mulai berkarir pada tahun 1971 saat dia menjadi keyboardist band Skylark. lagu paling terkenal dari band-nya adalah Wildflower yang menjadi top 10 pada tahun 1972.

setelah itu, dia sudah banyak bekerja dengan musisi musisi yang lain seperti Josh Groban, Michael Bubl�, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Jackson, Kenny G, dan masih banyak lagi.

dia sudah merilis album perdananya The Corrs, Michael bubl�, Josh groban, dan Reene Olstead dibawah label rekamannya sendiri.



Pada tahun 1985, lagu "Love Theme from St.Elmo's Fire(For Just A Moment)" menjadi top 15 char lagu teratas.
