Pontianak Teochew-style and legendary for its bakmi kepiting (noodles with crab meat), this joint�s star has lost some of its shine, but it�s nothing that a sprinkling of jeruk cui (a kind of sultry tangerine) and the tried-and-true chilli sauce can�t salvage. The branch at ITC Mangga Dua does a pretty savoury fried (bakmi goreng kepiting) for Rp 17,000 and garlicky version (bakmi kepiting yiam) for Rp 15,000.
Also delicious and full of character is the kweciap, a special Pontianak-style kwetiau using wider rice noodles with a topping of crispy pork strips, either stir-fried or in thick gravy. It�s a steal too, at just Rp 9,000 a pop. Amidst other offerings � a staggering selection of seafood, mainly � there is a fish congee that stands out from the norm: it�s coarse in texture but not on the palate, and fragrant with garlic. Don�t forget to order the es campur 12 macam acang, a dessert of twelve kinds of fruits with shaved ice. It�s practically a meal of its own. Also on Jl.
