New York � Kumbang, pada umumnya memakan daun, buah, serangga kecil atau sejenisnya. Seramnya, kumbang ini memakan katak dan kadal.
Kumbang Epomismen jadi predator bagi katak dan kadal yang notabene ukurannya jauh lebih besar. Menurut ilmuwan Tel Aviv University di Israel, kumbang biasanya memakan hewan kecil seperti serangga, cacing atau hewan bertulang punggung mati.
Namun, menurut peneliti Gil Wizen, ketika ada �kerabat� kumbang ini dimangsa kadal atau katak, kumbang ini akan membalas dendam dengan menyerang dan memangsa katak atau kadal itu.
Kumbang ini termasuk fenomena luar biasa hewan tak bertulang punggung yang memangsa hewan bertulang punggung, lanjutnya. Kumbang Epomis tak serta merta menyerang mangsanya.
Peneliti menemukan, kumbang ini akan mendekatkan diri dengan mangsanya terlebih dahulu sebelum akhirnya menyerangnya di malam hari. Saat menyerang, kumbang ini akan menggigit punggung korban dan menusuknya hingga lumpuh.
Saat itulah kumbang Epomis memakan korbannya secara perlahan. Seperti dikutip discovery, kumbang ini butuh beberapa jam untuk menghabiskan �santapannya� itu.
